Pager explosions: Devices made in Taiwan or Hungary?

19 September, 2024 08:20

The pager explosions in Lebanon have raised a new question regarding the pagers used in the incidents that are these devices produced in Taiwan or in Hungary?

A Taiwanese company that manufactures pagers has claimed that the pagers are made in a Hungarian company, while Hungary has denied Taiwan’s claim.

Rejecting the Taiwanese claim, the Hungarian company said that the devices that exploded in Lebanon were never in Hungary.

According to the British Broadcasting Corporation’s research, the pictures circulating on social media after pager blasts show the words ‘Gold’ and ‘AP’ or ‘AR’ prominently on a damaged pager, which suggests that these pagers are manufactured by the Taiwanese company ‘Gold Apollo’.

When BBC contacted Gold Apollo for more information, they flatly denied making the devices used in the Lebanon blasts, saying that after making this model, the rights were sold to a Hungarian company called ‘BAC’.

The investigative report said that according to Gold Apollo, a Hungarian company called BAC had permission to manufacture and brand this model of pagers under a licensing agreement.

The BBC said that the company called BAC was contacted several times to get information and position regarding the matter, but no response was received from there.
