Pakistan expresses deep grief over tragic incident of fire in Iraq hospital.

In a statement, Foreign Office Spokesperson Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri expressed deep grief and sorrow over the tragic incident of fire at a hospital in Nasiriya, Iraq.

He extended condolences to the government and people of Iraq on the loss of precious lives and injuries caused to many in the incident.

Furthermore, he said Pakistan stands with brotherly Iraq in this hour of grief.

According to the international media reports, at least 92 people died in a fire at the coronavirus isolation ward of a hospital in Iraq.

This came as the second such deadly blaze in a COVID-19 unit in three months, state news agency INA said on Tuesday.

More than 100 also injured in the fire that broke out at the al-Hussein Teaching Hospital in the southern city of Nasiriya late on Monday.

Finally, civil defence teams brought the blaze under control.

Meanwhile, a medical source with the health directorate mentioned the explosion of oxygen tanks as the “main reason behind the fire.

The new ward, opened just three months ago, contained 70 beds.

Footage shared online showed thick clouds of smoke billowing from the hospital buildings.
