Pakistan increases fees for K2 climbers

The Gilgit-Baltistan government has revised fee rates for mountaineering and trekking permits for climbing K2, the world’s second-highest peak.

According to a recent notification by the G-B Tourism, Sports, Culture, Archaeology & Museum Department, the permit fee for foreign climbers to scale K2 has been set at $12,000 for groups and $5,000 for individuals during the peak summer season (April-September).

The revised rates aim to boost revenue and promote sustainable tourism in the region.

The notification also outlines fees for Pakistani climbers, with permit fees ranging from Rs30,000 to Rs100,000 depending on the season.

Additionally, trekking fees for foreigners have been set at $100 per group and $300 for individuals during the summer season, with reduced rates for autumn and winter.

The revised fees are as follows:

– K2 Permit Fees (Foreigners):
– Summer (Apr-Sept): $12,000 (group), $5,000 (individual)
– Autumn (Oct-Nov): $2,500 (individual)
– Winter (Dec-Mar): $1,500 (individual)

– Summer: Rs100,000 (individual), Rs30,000 (group)
– Autumn: Rs50,000 (individual)
– Winter: Rs30,000 (individual)
