Govt forms JIT to probe anti-state propaganda
ISLAMABAD: In a bid to tackle the growing threat of malicious online activities, the federal government has established a five-member joint investigation team (JIT) to investigate an organised anti-state social media campaign.
The JIT, constituted under Section 30 of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (Peca), 2016, aims to identify and prosecute individuals responsible for creating chaos and disorder in Pakistan through online platforms.
The JIT, convened by the Islamabad police chief, comprises senior officials from the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and the Counter Terrorism Department. T
The panel’s primary objectives are to:
– Investigate and determine the organized objectives of the accused and their accomplices
– Identify and prosecute culprits in accordance with applicable laws
Special courts established for peca act
In a related development, the government last week constituted special courts to conduct trials of cases under the Peca Act. Additional district and sessions judges, civil judge East and West, have been authorized to conduct trials in these special courts.
