Pakistan Post suspends parcel bookings to US, here’s why

05 August, 2024 18:33

In a move that has sent shockwaves through the business community, the Pakistan Post has halted parcel bookings to the United States.

According to sources within the Pakistan Post, the reason for the closure is the non-payment of compensation to American shipping companies. However, the utility has cited the lack of proper parcel packing as the primary cause.

An inquiry report by the Directorate General of Pakistan Post has revealed several flaws, including deficiencies and missing Electronic Advanced Data (EAD), wrong classification of letter mail, and incorrect information in mandatory fields.

The report pointed out that small-sized registered letters were being sent to the US without generating ITMATT messages or with faulty/incomplete ITMATT messages, leading to errors and rejection by the United States Postal Service (USPS).

The suspension has caused disruption to trade, with orders from e-commerce customers being cancelled. Small businessmen and e-commerce sellers have urged the government to take immediate notice and ensure the resumption of delivery services to America through the Pakistan Post.

Notably, parcel bookings to the United Kingdom and other countries remain unaffected.
