31 March, 2024 12:09

The government has completely dismissed reports of any proposal being considered to amend the Constitution to extend tenure of Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa.

Speaking on a local TV show, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said that currently the government has no such proposal under consideration, nor has it seen any such document, nor has any such thing happened.

Tarar said that a baseless campaign is being run on some TV channels and social media. The tenure of the post of Chief Justice has not been discussed at any level, the news is wrong as the government has no such intention, he added.

It should be noted that the current Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faiz Isa will retire on October 25, 2025 at the age of 65, as the age limit for a judge of the apex court under the Constitution is 65 years.

The news is doing rounds on various media house including social media that the government intends to extend the term of office of the Chief Justice of Pakistan.

Meanwhile, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar addressing an event today said that he had come to the assembly as a representative of 70,000 Christian voters.

He said that the Christian community has an important role in the establishment of Pakistan and it is our responsibility to protect their rights.
