KP Expands Free Cancer Treatment Medicines to Entire Province
The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has announced a major expansion of its healthcare support program, ensuring free medicines for underprivileged cancer patients across the entire province.
Chief Minister Sohail Khan Afridi has directed the resumption and expansion of the initiative during a high-level meeting on the Annual Development Program (ADP) for 2026–2027. The meeting reviewed new development proposals across key sectors including health, agriculture, youth affairs, sports, and emergency services.
Officials were instructed to speed up the completion of the Khyber Institute of Child Health project, with immediate fund release ordered to avoid further delays. The chief minister also directed the provincial administration to engage with the federal government to secure pending financial support for ongoing health projects.
To address environmental challenges, CM Afridi proposed initiatives focused on rainwater and floodwater harvesting to help restore groundwater levels in major urban areas.
In the agriculture sector, he emphasized the need for self-sufficiency in wheat and other essential food crops, directing officials to develop comprehensive planning strategies. He also supported interest-free loans for agricultural graduates and scholarships for students.
For social inclusion, the chief minister ordered the establishment of dedicated sports facilities for special children within major sports complexes. He also emphasized the importance of implementing a strong youth policy focused on empowerment and employment opportunities.
Several major health infrastructure projects were proposed, including the establishment of a “Health City” and a general hospital linked to the Khan Institute of Organ Transplant in Peshawar. Upgrades to Basic Health Units (BHUs), Rural Health Clinics (RHCs), and Category-D hospitals were also recommended to improve healthcare delivery.
Additional proposals included setting up specialized medical centers such as an Oncology Center and a Burn and Kidney Center in Mardan, along with a Clinical Tower in Swabi.
In the emergency services sector, the meeting recommended expanding Rescue 1122 coverage by establishing sub-stations in all remaining tehsils and creating mobile command and control systems to improve response times.
The chief minister reiterated that upcoming development plans will prioritize the needs of youth, low-income families, and the middle class across the province.
