PFA Destroys 18,000 kg Animal Fat & 3,000 kg Dead Chickens in Major Lahore Crackdown — 3 Arrested
The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) conducted a sweeping crackdown against food adulteration and illegal food businesses across Lahore, seizing and disposing of 18,000 kilograms of animal fat and offal, 600 litres of prepared oil, and 3,000 kilograms of dead chickens during enforcement operations carried out at multiple locations in the provincial capital.
The drives were executed across Sundar Estate, Shahdara, Tollinton Market, and Mondiali Stop under the direct orders of PFA Director General Syed Musa Raza. During the course of the operations, one formal case was registered and three suspects were taken into custody on the spot for breaching food safety regulations.
A PFA spokesperson confirmed that a water plant and a food production facility were sealed for committing serious violations, while fines totalling Rs 352,000 were levied on 19 food businesses found operating outside permitted standards.
DG Syed Musa Raza stated that inspecting teams discovered that the mandatory chemical Methanol Dye and other required documentation were absent from oil units producing edible oil from animal fat. He noted that these businesses were functioning in clear defiance of regulatory requirements, creating significant risks to public health.
The DG further disclosed that on-site inspections uncovered the absence of valid medical certificates for workers, substandard hygiene conditions, and improper storage practices. In a particularly alarming finding, milk and meat products were found stored together in rusted freezers — a direct violation of food safety protocols.
Addressing the media, DG Musa Raza reaffirmed the authority’s resolve, stating that the PFA was actively pursuing those engaged in the manufacture and supply of substandard and hazardous edible oil and would maintain rigorous monitoring to guarantee the availability of safe, quality food to the public.
He made clear that there would be no leniency for the food fraud mafia, declaring that “no concession would be given to the food fraud mafia” and that strict legal action would be sustained against all those putting public health at risk through adulteration and food safety violations.
