ISLAMABAD: The federal government will present the Budget 2026–27 in the National Assembly on June 12, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhry announced on Tuesday.

He said Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb will present the budget in the lower house of parliament.

The date has been changed several times. Earlier, the budget was scheduled for June 5, then postponed to June 10, and now finalized for June 12 after consultations with coalition partners and discussions on key financial proposals.

According to reports, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), a key coalition partner, has assured the government of its support for passing the budget. This assurance was given during a meeting between a PPP delegation led by President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at Aiwan-e-Sadr.

Sources said both sides agreed on most budget proposals, while a few remaining issues will be finalized through further consultations between technical committees.

During the meeting, President Zardari stressed the importance of public welfare, provincial rights, and economic stability in the upcoming budget. He also called for economic policies that directly benefit the public.

Officials said the delay in presenting the budget was due to differences among coalition partners over some proposed measures, which required further discussion.

Finance Minister Aurangzeb earlier said the government is working closely with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and coalition partners to finalize the budget. He added that efforts are being made to improve tax collection without introducing major new taxes.

Under the Constitution, the federal budget must be passed by June 30 so it can take effect from July 1.

According to budget documents, the government has proposed a development budget of over Rs1.1 trillion for the fiscal year 2026–27.
