Govt Employees Demand 100% Salary Increase, Protest in Islamabad

Government employees in Islamabad attempted to march toward Parliament House on Friday, prompting police to use batons to disperse the crowd.

Islamabad Police stopped the protesters from advancing toward Parliament House, resorting to a baton charge to control the situation.

The demonstrators were demanding a 100 percent increase in salaries.

Protesters also called for the reversal of pension reforms and demanded that ad-hoc allowances be merged into basic salaries.

Due to the protest by government employees, Constitution Avenue was closed to traffic.

Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel toward the Red Zone area.

Police instructed commuters to use Bari Imam Road for travel to and from Margalla Road.

According to police, only the Serena Chowk route remains open for access to Parliament.

The route leading to Parliament from in front of the Secretariat has been closed off.
