AJK Government Accuses Banned Group of Disrupting Peace, Warns Against Strike Calls

The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) government accused a banned committee of attempting to disrupt peace and interfere with the democratic process in the region. Addressing a joint press conference in Muzaffarabad, the AJK Secretary of Information and the police spokesperson alleged that the group had sought to undermine public order and claimed the region had suffered an estimated financial loss of Rs15 billion over the past month.
The officials said the government had already provided subsidies on flour and electricity, while alleging that elements associated with the banned committee had taken control of a public rights movement and were inciting violence. They claimed the group was attempting to disrupt upcoming elections, describing such actions as an attack on the democratic process. The government also warned that legal action would be taken against those violating the law, including the possible withdrawal of certain official privileges.
During the briefing, officials cited several incidents they attributed to members of the banned committee, including attacks on police personnel, government officials, and public property in different parts of the region. They said 79 first information reports (FIRs) had been registered against the group’s leaders and supporters, adding that traders and residents had rejected a strike call issued for July 5.
