Pakistan Alleges India-Linked Social Media Disinformation Campaign

Pakistan’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar claimed that authorities had uncovered what he described as an India-linked social media disinformation network aimed at spreading anti-Pakistan propaganda and misleading the public. Speaking in Islamabad, Tarar said he wanted to inform the nation about what he called key facts, alleging that the misinformation campaign originated from individuals linked to India’s intelligence agency, RAW, and sought to target Pakistan and its institutions.

The minister alleged that much of the online content focused on the banned Joint Action Committee in Kashmir and was intended to encourage unrest, promote unlawful activities and create instability in the region. He claimed that paid social media content was used to incite people against the state and that videos from unrelated locations were falsely presented as footage from Kashmir. Tarar also alleged that evidence showed Indian funding and coordination involving elements associated with the banned committee.

Tarar further stated that Pakistan’s recent military and diplomatic successes had prompted hostile propaganda campaigns, asserting that numerous India-based social media accounts had been identified as part of the alleged operation. He said the government would continue to defend Pakistan’s interests on every front and counter what it described as attempts to spread disinformation.
