Day Five: Pakistan’s Battlefield Gains in September 1965
On the fifth day of the September 1965 war, fighting continued on several fronts, with the Pakistan Army claiming important successes and putting the Indian forces under continued pressure.
President Ayub Khan congratulated the troops for their remarkable achievements at Jaurian and directed them to continue their efforts against the enemy.
After intense fighting throughout the night, Pakistani forces succeeded in capturing Jaurian, described as one of India’s strongest defensive positions.
Following this important success, Indian forces were pushed back 18 miles from Jaurian and three miles from Akhnoor.
Pakistani troops also carried out strong operations against Indian forces at several locations in occupied Kashmir. According to the account, more than 50 Indian soldiers were killed and many others were wounded.
