PTI Leaders Face Possible Arrests as Authorities Move to Enforce Pending Warrants

ISLAMABAD: Authorities have decided to accelerate the enforcement of existing arrest warrants against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders wanted in various cases following the arrest of former PTI leader Hammad Azhar, according to sources.

Sources said PTI leaders facing judicial warrants in cases including the November 2024 D-Chowk protest could be arrested as authorities move to implement the warrants already issued by the courts.

According to the sources, warrants against Junaid Akbar and Abdul Ghani in cases related to the D-Chowk protest are among those expected to be enforced.

Sources said judicial warrants issued against Shibli Faraz, Murad Saeed and Hammad Azhar in cases registered in connection with incidents at the Judicial Complex are also being brought into the enforcement process.

Other PTI figures reportedly wanted in different Islamabad cases include Zartaj Gul, Amir Masood Mughal, Dr Amjad Ali and Meena Khan Afridi.

Authorities have also decided to move forward with legal proceedings in the Faizabad protest case involving former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister Ali Amin Gandapur and Umar Tanveer Butt, according to sources.

Sources said any arrests would be carried out on the basis of existing FIRs and judicial warrants issued in previous cases rather than through the registration of new cases.

Islamabad Police have reportedly been directed to implement court-issued warrants against PTI leaders wanted in cases registered at different police stations, strictly in accordance with the law.

The development comes amid increased legal pressure on PTI leaders facing cases stemming from protests and other incidents in Islamabad.

Sources said the authorities are reviewing pending cases and court warrants to ensure that outstanding legal proceedings are brought forward and judicial orders are implemented.
