KP Begins Selection of Regional Development Council Members
The process of selecting public representatives for the Regional Representation and Development Council is underway in 12 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under a new administrative system.
On October 14, jirgas were held in North Waziristan, Khyber, Bannu, Mohmand, and Tall in Kurram district to select council members. The selection process in the remaining relevant districts is expected to be completed within the next two days.
The members are being selected through the jirga system, taking into account local people’s wishes, tribal traditions, and mutual consultation.
The district administrations organised jirgas attended by local elders, religious scholars, tribal leaders, and traders. Discussions focused on law and order, security, and public issues.
Under the new system, a 24-member Regional Representation and Development Council will be formed, with two selected tribal elders or maliks from each of the 12 districts.
The council will identify development projects based on local needs and make recommendations to the relevant authorities to address public issues. Its main objective is to ensure effective representation of local elders and communicate public needs and development priorities to government institutions.
Local elders expressed confidence in the new administrative system and reaffirmed their commitment to cooperating with government institutions and security forces. Tribal leaders also assured continued support for lasting peace, stability, resolving public issues, and promoting development in the region.
