PM sees Afghan peace process moving in right direction for the first time.

Prime Minister Imran Khan spoke on Afghanistan r elated developments in an interview with Belgian channel VRT.

He said it is the first time that the Afghan peace process is moving in the right direction.

PM Khan said that United States wants peace and dialogue with the Taliban.

He said the Taliban are also now sitting with the Americans.

He hoped the next phase will be ceasefire and then possibly an agreement.

While referring to Pakistan’s contributions in the war on terror,  he said 70 thousand Pakistanis lost their lives.

The Prime Minister expressed satisfaction that 2019, his first year in power, was the safest year in Pakistan since 9/11.

Responding to a question, Imran Khan said the problem in India right now is that they are pursuing Nazi inspired extremist ideology.

Pakistan facilitates peace in Afghanistan

Notably Pakistan played key role in ongoing peace and reconciliation process for which US had sought assistance.

But internally, Afghanistan is facing another challenge after reelection of Ashraf Ghani as president.

His political rivals have rejected result of president election.

Hence, Afghan polity will also remain divided for the time being.

That means Taliban-US deal may help solve intra-Afghan problems partly.

Moreover, Afghan peace and reconciliation need all stakeholders to patch up.
