Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced on Friday that reducing electricity prices is a top priority for the PML-N government and its allies.

He emphasized that providing relief to electricity consumers is a key agenda for PML-N President Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and his administration.

During cabinet meeting, the prime minister highlighted the need to lower electricity prices to boost Pakistan’s exports. He noted that the agricultural and industrial sectors cannot expand without reduced electricity costs.

Sharif criticized the politicization of electricity issues, calling it disrespectful to the public seeking solutions. He urged the government to address inefficiencies and corruption within the Federal Board of Revenue and the Energy Sector.

PM Shehbaz assured that the government is working tirelessly to address the people’s problems. He recalled the PML-N’s past achievements, including resolving 20-hour daily load-shedding and praised China for investing in Pakistan’s electricity production.

Sharif announced a 10-day extension for electricity bill payments, a reduction in industrial electricity tariffs by Rs 8.5 per unit, and a Rs 170 billion subsidy for the industry.

The Prime Minister expressed concern over the burden on the salaried class but noted that a Rs 50 billion subsidy was granted for consumers using up to 200 units of electricity per month.
