Prime Minister of Pakistan and Iran President elect agree to boost cooperation.

Prime Minister Imran Khan held a telephone conversation with President-elect of the Islamic Republic of Iran Dr Ebrahim Raisi.

During telephonic talks, he discussed matters of mutual interests with Dr Raisi.

According to Radio Pakistan, Pakistan and Iran have agreed to further boost existing cooperation particularly in its economic dimension.

The two leaders expressed satisfaction at the upward trajectory of bilateral relations.

Furthermore, they also affirmed that the establishment of border sustenance markets along Pakistan-Iran border would yield economic and social benefits for the people of both countries.

In the regional context, Imran Khan expressed concern at the worsening security situation in Afghanistan.

He cautioned that the latest developments could lead to serious repercussions for both Pakistan and Iran.

That could result in an influx of refugees towards the bordering areas of the two countries.

He strongly underscored the imperative of a negotiated political solution to the conflict in Afghanistan.

Both sides emphasized the need to continue facilitating an Afghan-led and Afghan-owned inclusive political settlement.

Prime Minister thanks Iran

Moreover, the Prime Minister thanked Iran for its steadfast support for the just cause of Kashmir.

Both leaders also expressed concern at the serious human rights situation in Palestine and Kashmir.

The two leaders emphasized the need to resolve these long-standing disputes in accordance with the UN Security Council resolutions.

Meanwhile IRNA reports cited a PM house official statement said Imran Khan congratulated President-elect Raisi on his victory in the presidential elections held on 18 June 2021, which was a manifestation of Iranian people’s trust in his leadership.

Both sides also agreed to maintain high-level exchanges, with both leaders extending invitations to each other to pay official visits.
