The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has announced major update related to block SIM cards.

The PTA in its announcement stated that the SIMs issued in the names of deceased persons will be blocked from October 15, 2024.

Meanwhile, the telecommunication authority has directed the citizens interested in transferring such SIMs to their name can process the required documents at the franchise/service center of the concerned SIM provider to avoid any inconvenience.

Earlier to this PTA devised a plan to block Subscriber Identity Modules of users in three phases.

According to sources within PTA, the authority has received data from the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) and will initiate the blocking process in the following phases:

Phase 1: Subscriber Identity Modules registered on fake and canceled CNICs will be blocked.

Phase 2: SIMs registered on expired CNICs will be blocked.

Phase 3: SIM registered under CNICs of deceased persons will be blocked.

Subscribers have already started receiving messages on their Subscriber Identity Modules regarding the impending blockage. This move aims to curb the use of fake and expired CNICs for SIM registration, ensuring a more secure and authentic mobile phone user base.
