PTA reveals reason behind internet disruptions in Pakistan
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has finally opened up about recent internet disruption in the country.
According to PTA Chairman Hafiz Rahman, it was due to the fault in the one of the seven fiber optic cables bringing 7.5 terabits of data into Pakistan.
He made this revelation during a briefing to the Standing Committee on Information Technology. He stated that this particular cable is expected to be repaired by August 27.
The chairman refuted claims made by Minister of State for IT Shaza Fatima that the widespread use of Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) was to blame for the internet issues.
He clarified that the fault in the cable was a localized problem for Pakistan and not a global outage.
Rahman acknowledged that the freelancers and internet service providers were affected by the disruption.
He reassured that the authorities are closely monitoring the situation and taking necessary steps to restore full connectivity as soon as the damaged cable is repaired.
