PTI kicks off hunger strike outside Parliament against ‘injustice’

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has set up a hunger strike camp outside the Parliament House in Islamabad, calling for the release of party founder Imran Khan and other leaders.

The move comes after a series of setbacks for the former ruling party, including the sealing of its central secretariat and the arrest of several party workers.

Speaking to journalists, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan announced that the hunger strike will be held daily from 4 pm to 8 pm as a token protest against the “injustice” faced by the party and to demand the supremacy of parliament.

He expressed his party’s reservations to National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq over the “illegal and unconstitutional actions” taken against PTI leaders and workers.

Gohar condemned the sealing of the party’s secretariat, citing “lack of fire and life safety arrangements” as the reason.

However, he emphasized that the real motive behind the actions was to silence the party’s voice. The hunger strike camp will continue until Imran Khan and other leaders are released, he asserted.

Notably, PTI has faced a series of challenges in recent days, including the arrest of Information Secretary Raoof Hasan and other party workers.

Hasan was taken into custody for allegedly heading a digital media cell and spreading anti-Pakistan propaganda. The party has denied these allegations, calling them baseless and politically motivated.
