PTI top brass lost appeals for nomination papers in Lahore High Court

The Lahore High Court upheld the ECP’s tribunal verdict for not allowing Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and key leaders for February 8, General Elections.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Chaudhry Pervez Elahi, Hammad Azhar, Khurram Latif and PTI activist Sanam Javed could not take part in general election.

Imran Khan who won five national assembly seats in 2018 general elections, had submitted nomination papers for Lahore’s NA-122 and Mianwali’s NA-89 constituencies.

PTI’s Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed, Rihana Dar, Qaisara Elahi, and others got green light for participating in the election from Lahore High Court.

The court dismissed the appeals against their nomination papers and upheld election appellate tribunals verdict.

Apart from nomination papers being rejected of most of PTI leaders, some opted out for elections. Today, PTI leader Azam Swati withdrew his appeal against rejection of nomination papers from Peshawar High Court.

Earlier,  PTI leader Shafqat Mahmood also have withdrawn his nomination papers for February 8 general elections.

The LHC bench, headed by Justice Ali Baqar Najafi, heard numerous petitions related to the acceptance or dismissal of PTI lawmakers’ nomination papers. The court today announced the verdict which was reserved yesterday.
