PTI was trying to stop democracy from derailing, PTI chairman Gohar Ali Khan

PTI Chairman Gohar Ali Khan said that there should be free and fair Elections held in Pakistan, adding that PTI was trying to stop democracy from “derailing”.

The PTI chief while referring to the Supreme Court’s December 15 order : “We had filed the petition to appoint the returning officers from the judiciary. It will be a hurdle in justice if notices are served to the petitioner”.

Talking to media outside Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail on Saturday, the PTI Chairman said : “Despite facing difficulties such as court cases and arrests, if a level playing field is ensured, the PTI will win polls with a two-thirds majority”.

Barrister Gohar reiterated his party stance that the returning officers (ROs) and district returning officers (DROs) should be from the judiciary [and not from bureaucracy]. However, he said it was the party’s demand that the elections should not be delayed by even a day.

“We wanted the Supreme Court to oversee the electoral process as free and fair elections are essential for the country,the Supreme Court would save democracy, Inshallah,” he added.

The PTI chief said not only should elections be held, but they should be free and fair. He added that PTI was trying to stop democracy from “derailing”.
