Punjab declared 4-day holiday across the province
The Caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab Mohsin Naqvi decided to observe a four-day holiday — from November 9 to 12 — in the province.The federal government of Pakistan had already announced November 9 (Iqbal Day) a national holiday.
The chief minister noted that through these measures, the government can make the air quality better, but cannot completely eradicate smog.
There is a proposal for “work from home” arrangements in educational institutions and offices, which has been submitted to the Punjab government. The final decision on these measures will be made by the provincial government.
The IQ Air, a Swiss air quality technology company showed that the Air Quality Index (AQI) of the provincial capital Lahore has spiked to 374, while Multan stood at 442. Pindi Bhattian’s AQI was at 257 and Rawalpindi 175.
An AQI of 101 to 150 is considered unhealthy for sensitive groups, 151 to 200 is unhealthy, 201 to 300 is very unhealthy, and 301 to 500 is hazardous.
