Punjab govt barred from distributing e-bikes to students

The Lahore High Court on Friday barred the Government of Punjab from distributing electric bikes among students until Monday.

Moreover, the court has sought out the comprehensive details of the project while suspending the distribution of e-bikes.

The orders from the court came during the hearing of a case related to the elimination of smog in the province.

Justice Shahid Karim remarked that a detailed report should be given in which cities how many electronic bikes are being distributed.

Expressing apprehensions about the potential misuse of electric bikes, Justice Shahid Karim stressed that students should be encouraged to use public transport. He emphasized the importance of ensuring student safety and said if they were given e-bikes, they would resort to one-wheeling.

The court directed the government to provide electronic buses to colleges instead of distributing electronic bikes among students.
