19 June, 2024 10:28

Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in Pyongyang on his first visit to North Korea in 24 years.

On the occasion of the arrival of the Russian President in North Korea, Kim Jong Un welcomed him, while Putin was also given guard of honour. Relations between the two countries have deepened in recent years, especially after Russia’s attack on Ukraine

According to BBC, the United States has expressed concern over the growing relations between the two countries, while the Kremlin is calling the Russian president’s visit a “friendly” visit.

Russian media, on the occasion of the visit, said the president will sign partnership agreements with North Korea in various fields including security, while a joint declaration will also be issued.

The delegation of the Russian president also includes the new Minister of Defence Andrey Belousov, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak.

President Putin’s visit to North Korea is likely to be followed by a visit to Vietnam where various issues will be discussed.

It should be noted that the two leaders had previously met in September last year at the Vostokin Cosmodrome in the far eastern region of Russia, while Putin visited North Korea in 2000 in the early years of his presidency when Kim Jong Un’s father was the leader of North Korea.
