Rahat Fateh Ali Khan released on bail in Dubai

Prominent singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan has been released on bail in Dubai following a detention over a complaint of defamation filed by his former manager Salman Ahmad.

The singer had arrived in Dubai in early hour on Monday from Lahore for a musical collaboration but he was taken into the police custody at the immigration centre.

However, Rahat issued a statement stating his followers “not to pay attention” to rumours but didn’t deny that he was detained and questioned by the police at the Buri Police station, where he was kept.

The Dubai police had formally registered the case for action against Rahat on 13 July this year, after Salman’s lawyers advanced it to the police.

He is accompanied in Dubai by his brother-in-law Bakka Burki.

Earlier, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) announced that it found no evidence linking renowned singer Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan to money laundering, tax evasion, or any other illegal activities.
