Real Madrid have announced the departure of club legend and defender Nacho Fernandez.

The Real Madrid captain, who spent 12 season at the club, will play in Qatar.

“Our captain Nacho has decided to end his career as a Real Madrid player. Real Madrid wants to express its gratitude and affection to Nacho, one of the great legends of our club,” Real Madrid said in a statement.

Since joining Real Madrid in 2001 as a 10-year-old boy, he has made 364 appearances and won 26 titles. He made his first-team debut back in 2012.

His title tally includes six Champions Leagues, five Club World Cups, four UEFA Super Cups, four La Liga titles, two Copa del Rey titles, and five Spanish Super Cups.

Additionally, with the Spanish national team, he won the U-21 European Championship and the Nations League, and is currently competing in the 2024 Euro Cup in Germany.

Nacho ends his career at Real Madrid as the captain who lifted the Fifteenth at Wembley, as one of the five players who have won six Champions Leagues in the history of football, and with the most titles in the history of the club.

All Real Madrid fans feel immense pride for one of the most legendary academy products in our history.

“Since he arrived at our academy as a child, Nacho has always been an example of overcoming obstacles for everyone and takes with him the affection, recognition, and admiration of all Madridismo. Real Madrid is and will always be his home,” said Real Madrid’s president Florentino Pérez.
