Reserved seats: Ruling alliance does not intend to debate SC verdict

15 July, 2024 09:40

The ruling coalition government does not intend to discuss and scrutinize the Supreme Court verdict on the reserved seats case by convening the sessions of the National Assembly and the Senate in a hurry.

The ruling coalition will review the situation from every angle, while the leadership of the coalition parties will hold consultations this week and a decision can be taken.

The meeting called by Pakistan Muslim League-N President Mian Nawaz Sharif in Murree, which is expected to be held in Lahore next week, has been postponed in which the overall political situation of the country will be reviewed.

Sources in the ruling coalition said the session of the National Assembly or the Senate could be considered on or after Monday, July 22, provided that the need is agreed upon.

The National Assembly session will be held on August 5 as per the scheduled calendar. The sources have revealed that there are many technical problems in the implementation of the majority court decision, in which the issuance of the certificate of the Election Commission for the intra-party elections of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf is of considerable importance. The ECP meeting will be held on July 23.

If the commission recognizes these elections of PTI as valid and issues the certificate, then the members who will be nominated by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf for reserved seats will be able to take oath.
