Sarfaraz Ahmed all set for Pakistan comeback

19 June, 2024 18:27

Former captain Sarfaraz Ahmed is likely to be included in the squad for the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh along with others.

The wicketkeeper-batter hasn’t featured for Pakistan for a while, however, following a below-par show at the ICC T20 World Cup, several players including Babar Azam are likely to be rested for the upcoming Tests series.

The other big names who would be watching the series from home includes pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi and Mohammad Rizwan.

This makes Sarfaraz Ahmed an automatic choice to handle stuff behind the stumps.

Apart from that, Saud Shakeel, Abdullah Shafique and Salman Ali Agha are also in contention to make it thought to the squad.

Captain Shan Masood, head coach Jason Gillespie and the selection committee have begun discussions related to the squad for the Test series.

Moreover, pacer Haris Rauf, who has been in the news lately, hasn’t been considered at all for the red-ball games.

Naseem Shah, Shahnawaz Dahani, Mir Hamza, Khurram Shahzad and Aamir Jamal are being considered for Pakistan’s pace attack.

Pakistan will host Bangladesh in August for a two-Test series and this series will be the first time since 2019-2020 that Pakistan will host the nation.

The series is part of the ICC World Test Championship 2023-2025. This series will be Gillespie’s first assignment as head coach of the Pakistan Test team.
