SC to hear plea seeking to declare polls annul on 19th

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has admitted a petition seeking to declare the general elections annul for hearing here on Friday.

In the plea, a citizen, Ali Khan, had requested to hold re-elections in the country, alleging the Feb 8 polls were rigged.

A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa will hear the plea on February 19.

Supreme Court Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Justice Musrat Hilali will also be part of the three-member bench.

The Supreme Court has issued a notice to the petitioner.

It is to be remembered that there have been complaints of massive rigging in the general elections held on February 8.

Complaints of rigging have come from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, ANP, JUI-F, Jamaat-e-Islami, National Party and other parties.

Meanwhile, re-polling is underway today on National Assembly’s NA-253 and PB-9’s seven polling stations in Kohlu region of Balochistan.

According to the Election Commission of Pakistan, 8, 263 voters will exercise their right to vote in today’s polling. Five joint polling stations and two female polling stations have been established for re-polling.

The Election Commission said that the polling process will start at 8 am and continue till 5 pm without any break.

Earlier, polling was postponed on February 8 due to various reasons at all the seven polling stations where re-polling is taking place again today.

It should be remembered that re-polling was conducted in some polling stations of Ghotki, Kohat and Khushab yesterday.
