KARACHI: Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has slammed PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi of using players as scapegoats and lacking experienced professionals in the board.

Afridi expressed his discontent during a media conference, where he accused the board of using players as scapegoats.

The former all-rounder stressed for experts like newly appointed red-ball coach Gary Kirsten at the grassroots level, not just the national team.

Afridi also criticized the selection process, saying players were chosen arbitrarily, and questioned the board’s approach to accountability.

Furthermore, Afridi advised Mohsin Naqvi, who holds dual positions at the PCB and Ministry of Interior, to choose one role to focus on.

“Since Mohsin Naqvi holds both positions at the PCB and the Ministry of Interior, he should now make a decision and choose one position. If he follows the advice of the PCB advisors, he won’t be able to achieve much,” he said. “The PCB chairman’s advisor lacks knowledge about cricket and will be unable to guide him in the right direction. The advisor is not capable of this role,” he added.

Shahid Afridi also expressed concerns about India’s potential withdrawal from the Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan, citing past experiences under challenging conditions.

“We have visited several Indian cities even in difficult situations and despite the threats,” said the ex-skipper.
