Sri Lanka and New Zealand playing rare 6-day Test match

22 September, 2024 10:19

The Galle Test match between Sri Lanka and New Zealand will be played over 6 days instead of 5.

The first test of the series consisting of 2 test matches between the two teams started from September 18 at the Galle Cricket Stadium, but this test match will be played on 6 days instead of 5.

The test is scheduled from 18th to 23rd September, which is 6 days.

What is the reason?

The special thing about the Galle Test match between Sri Lanka and New Zealand is that a rest day has been given in this match. The first 3 days of the Test match have ended, but due to the presidential elections in the country, a rest day has been given. A rest day was kept which made the match 6 days instead of 5.

The fourth day of the Test between the two teams will now begin today.

It should be noted that this is not the first time that a Test match has been scheduled for 6 days instead of 5. The last time this happened was in 2008 in the Test between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh and the reason for this was the parliamentary elections in Bangladesh.

In 2008, during the first Test match between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in Mirpur, Dhaka from 26 to 31 December, elections were also scheduled in the country on 29 December.
