Supreme Court to hear Justice Mazahar Naqvi petitions on Dec 15

09 December, 2023 22:54

The Supreme Court of Pakistan is set to schedule constitutional pleas of Justice Sayyed Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi on December 15.

A three-member Supreme Court bench headed by Justice Aminuddin Khan comprised of Justice Jamal Mandokhel and Justice Musarrat Hilali has been constituted.

Earlier, in his 14-page reply to the SJC’s show-cause notice, Justice Naqvi objected to the presence of Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, Justice Sardar Tariq Masood and Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan in the Supreme Judicial Council.

Justice Naqvi had challenged the SJC inquiry launched against him over alleged misconduct and assets beyond means. Justice Naqvi had filed multiple petitions in the apex court requesting the reference against him null and void.

The SJC issued a show cause notice to Justice Naqvi on October 27 and a detailed show cause notice on November 23.

Justice Mazahar Naqvi later challenged both the SJC proceedings and its show cause notices in the Supreme Court through two separate constitution petitions.

The complaints against Justice Naqvi included charges of misconduct and assets beyond means. The complainant has pleaded to the judicial council to remove Justice Mazahir Ali Akbar Naqvi from the office of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
