Although the movie was primarily about a teenage girl who aspires to become a singer, the film beautifully reflected the issues of feminism, gender equality and domestic violence.

According to media reports, the film was made with a budget of 15 crore and due to its interesting story, it made a worldwide business of 900 crores.

Secret Superstar received 10 nominations at the 63rd Filmfare Awards, including Best Film, Chandan for Best Director, Zaira Wasim for Best Actress, and Aamir Khan for Best Supporting Actor.
