Threat to lives of people in Karachi’s Red Zone

Lives of commuters as well as those of pedestrians are in danger in Karachi’s Red Zone, it emerged during a GTV’s  safety survey of city roads on Sunday.

In Pakistan, the terms “Red Zone” and “Green Zone” are generally refer to areas with high and low security, respectively. The Governor House, Chief Minister House, Sindh Assembly and few other important places fall in Red Zone.

A several meter-long part of Hotel Metropole’s facade got dilapidated on the third floor of the decades old historic building of port city. The dilapidated portion, carrying iron rods hanging in air, facing Merewether Road connecting Abdullah Haroon Road with Shahrah-e-Faisal. This may fall anytime on the Red Zone’s busy artery used daily by hundreds of commuters.

The authorities concerned have failed to take measures to prevent a possible serious accident.

Citizens have urged Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, Sindh Building Control Authority and other relevant authorities to take immediate action.

The famous Hotel Metropole was inaugurated sometime in 1953-54. It was founded by Cyrus Faramjee Minwala,

The decades old Hotel Metropole was the second decent and worthwhile place the port city with good cuisine in town.
