Tom Cruise performed a heart-stopping stunt at the Paris Olympics 2024 closing ceremony, rappelling from the roof of France’s national stadium and receiving the Olympic flag.

The event marked the handover of the Olympics to Los Angeles, the next host city.

According to LA28 president and chairperson Casey Wasserman, Tom Cruise and his team did not charge a fee for their performance. Wasserman revealed that Cruise, known for doing his own stunts in the Mission: Impossible franchise, insisted on performing all his own stunts during the ceremony.

The stunt involved Cruise rappelling 50 meters to the floor of the Stade de France, shaking hands with Los Angeles mayor Karen Bass, and then exiting on a motorbike.

Wasserman shared the behind-the-scenes story of the epic stunt, revealing that Cruise finished filming Mission: Impossible in London, flew to Los Angeles, and filmed the scene where he pulls onto a military plane. He then did two jumps out of the plane, helicoptered to the Hollywood sign, and flew back to London.

“He finished filming Mission: Impossible at 6 p.m. in London, got right on a plane. He landed in L.A. at 4 a.m., and filmed the scene where he pulls onto a military plane. In L.A., he does two jumps out of the thing. He didn’t like the first one, so he did a second jump. Then he helicoptered from Palmdale to the Hollywood sign, filmed from 1 until 5, helicoptered to Burbank Airport and flew back to London,” the LA28 president stated.
