07 July, 2025 13:21

The Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) is a government aid program that helps poor families in Pakistan. It gives regular cash assistance to families living below the poverty line, especially those led by women.

Since its start in 2008, BISP has expanded to include education support, child allowances, and aid for widows and disabled people.

Who Can Apply for BISP?

To get help from BISP, families must meet certain conditions:

  • Low Income – Your household income must be very limited (usually under PKR 50,000).
  • Woman as Head of Household – A woman should apply using her valid CNIC. Widows, divorced women, and women without male support get priority.
  • Poverty Score – BISP calculates a score based on a survey. Families with a score below 32 are eligible.
  • No Major Assets – Families cannot own farmland over 3 acres, property or vehicles over 1000cc, or have foreign income or passports.
  • No Government Jobs – If anyone in the family has a government job or pension, you cannot apply.
