Salman Khan’s Legal Battle Over ‘Kala Hiran’ Takes New Turn

Salman Khan has been asked to respond to a legal plea filed by producer Amit Jani over the upcoming film Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy, which is linked to the actor’s 1998 Blackbuck case.

The Delhi High Court issued a notice to Khan on Tuesday, October 6, after Jani sought a stay on the actor’s latest legal proceedings against the film.

Justice Anup Jairam Bhambhani issued the notice after the producer claimed that Khan’s new case was seeking similar relief to an earlier matter already pending before the court.

Khan has been trying to stop the film from being released and distributed, arguing that it affects his personality and publicity rights. The actor has also accused the filmmakers of using the Blackbuck case to create publicity and damage his reputation.

Jani, however, has argued that Khan cannot seek similar restrictions through separate legal proceedings. The producer has asked the court to wait for the earlier case to be decided.

The legal dispute intensified in July when the Delhi High Court ordered the removal of a teaser and related social media posts. The court also restricted the filmmakers from using Khan’s name, likeness, mannerisms and other identifiable features for commercial purposes without permission.

The producers have maintained that Kala Hiran is not a biopic of Salman Khan. They have also argued that personality rights should not prevent them from portraying public events connected to the Blackbuck case.

The filmmakers further told the court that the movie is still incomplete and has not received censor certification. They also said that no official trailer has been released.

Khan’s legal team will now respond to the producer’s application, with the next hearing scheduled for December 16.

The latest court order does not determine the film’s release. The legal battle between Khan and the makers of Kala Hiran is still continuing.
