US backs direct talks between India, Pakistan: Miller

21 June, 2024 09:04

State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller has said that the US supports direct dialogue between India and Pakistan.

Addressing a press conference in Washington, the US spokesperson said that the pace, scope and character of the dialogue between the two countries should be determined not by the US but by the two countries themselves.

Miller further said that the US and Pakistan have a common interest in dealing with threats to regional security.

He said that security partnership with Pakistan is ongoing through anti-terrorism dialogue.

Earlier in April, the United States had urged both Pakistan and India to avoid escalation and resolve issues through dialogue.

This was stated by State Department’s spokesperson Matthew Miller while responding to a question about claims that India had ordered killings in Pakistan.

The spokesperson added that we don’t have any comment on the underlying allegations, but of course, while we’re not going to get in the middle of this situation, we encourage Pakistan and India to avoid tension and find a solution through dialogue.
