29 April, 2021 12:43

Voting to elect Member National Assembly from NA 249 Karachi seat held today (Thursday).

Election Commission rebuffed the reports of presence of armed men in the polling stations.

Meanwhile, those contesting for this seat include: Mustafa Kamal of Pak Sarzameen party, Miftah Ismail of PMLN and Qadir Khan Madokhel of Pakistan People’s party.

Moreover, Mohammad Mursaleen of MQM Pakistan and Amjad Afridi of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf are also contesting.

The voters majority elected Faisal Vawda in the election 2018 from NA-249.

However, situation has changed on the ground since then.

Now, PTI has lost its former allies such as MWM and other local groups.

The PPP rules Sindh province; therefore, they are trying to take advantage of failure of PTI in keeping its promises to NA-249 voters.

Similarly, PMLN, PSP and MQM are also trying to do so.

However, MQM remains a partner in the PTI-led ruling coalition at the Centre.

PTI had been trying to withdraw MQM, while their ally GDA had also fielded its candidate.

Sardar Rahim of PMLF-GDA had been seeking withdrawal of MQM and PTI.

Therefore, uncertainty shrouds the mood of the electorates this time due to deepened division within polity.

Concerned staff held the by-elections on national assembly constituency NA-249, Karachi West-II on Thursday.

Moreover, the relevant authorities have directed the presiding officers to send pictures of Form-45 to returning officers. However, they must do it in presence of polling agents of contesting candidates.
