ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Friday accepted the unconditional apologies of Senator Faisal Vawda and Mustafa Kamal, dismissing the contempt of court case against them.

The top court also withdrew the show-cause notices issued to Senator Vawda and Mustafa Kamal. However, the Chief Justice made it clear that future similar statements would not be excused with unconditional apologies.

Soon after the verdict, Senator Faisal Vawda prostrated himself in the Supreme Court premises after the dismissal of the case.

During the hearing, Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa highlighted the respectful relationship between the judiciary and Parliament. “While we respect Parliament, we expect at least some respect for the judiciary as an institution,” he stated.

Justice Qazi Faiz Isa said that people will be harmed by demeaning each other, you are protected by Article 66 in Parliament and you will not get Article 66 by talking outside.

The Chief Justice said that your unconditional apology is accepted but be careful in this matter in the future.

Earlier, independent Senator Faisal Vawda has refused to tender an unconditional apology in contempt of court case.

He submitted reply in the Supreme Court over a contempt of court notice against a press conference on May 15.

However, following today’s verdict, the former federal minister bowed down to God to express his gratitude.
