WhatsApp rolls out new feature to facilitate users with hearing difficulties

12 July, 2024 11:00

A new feature has been introduced in WhatsApp which was not present in this messaging platform till now.

Wabetainfo reported that a feature called Voice Message Transcription has been introduced in the Android beta (beta) version of WhatsApp.

As the name suggests, this feature will make it possible to read voice messages in written form.

This feature was previously introduced in beta version for iOS devices in May 2023 and has now been rolled out for Android users.

This feature will be useful for users who have hearing difficulties.

If you don’t have time and want to know the content of the voice message then this feature will also be helpful.

The report said that this feature is currently available to limited beta users and will be expanded gradually.

The report also provided a screenshot of the feature, which indicates that it will be possible to change voice messages to English, Spanish, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian and Hindi.

Support for more languages may also be provided for the feature in the near future.

When you select a language to transcribe a voice message, WhatsApp will download an additional data package to ensure your privacy.

All voice messages will be transcribed to text within the device, meaning you will be in control and no one else will be able to access it.

As mentioned above this feature is only introduced in beta version so it is hard to say how long it can be available to all users.
