WhatsApp to unveil double-tap reaction feature; here’s how it will work

29 July, 2024 21:00

In a move to enhance user experience, WhatsApp is testing a new feature for Android users that enables quicker message reactions.

According to WABetaInfo, a reliable feature tracker, the messaging platform is introducing a double-tap gesture that allows users to react to messages with a default heart emoji.

By double-tapping on a message, users can instantly send a heart emoji, eliminating the need to press and hold the message to select an emoji.

This quick reaction feature is similar to those found on other Meta Platforms apps like Instagram and Facebook.

Currently, this feature is only available to beta testers and is still in development. Users enrolled in the Google Play Beta program may have access to this new functionality.

In addition to quick reactions, WhatsApp is also working on several other features, including re-share status updates, live transcription of voice messages and real-time translation.
