WhatsApp users can now tag other people in their Status

Meta-owned WhatsApp has introduced new features aimed at enhancing the experience of status updates.

The new features include the ability to like status updates, resharing status when mentioned, and privately tagging contacts in status updates.

The upcoming feature differs from Instagram where anyone can see the people mentioned in Stories.

The Meta-owned WhatsApp capped the mentioned users at five in a single Status, while working to bring likes to Status with a single tap, an option similar to Instagram’s heart button.

However, the number of likes will be kept private in WhatsApp stories.

Meanwhile, the messaging platform said that it is working on “bringing more features to status and the updates tab over the next few months.”

Moreover, WhatsApp, the popular instant messaging app used by billions worldwide, is gearing up for another major update by incorporating Instagram Reels into its platform.

As both Instagram and WhatsApp are owned by Meta, this integration is part of a larger effort to merge features between the two widely-used platforms.

Over the past few years, WhatsApp has adopted several features from Instagram. The WhatsApp Status function, which allows users to share temporary updates, was inspired by Instagram Stories, and more recently, the Channels feature, reminiscent of Instagram’s Channels, was introduced to enhance public communication and information sharing.
