Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar has revealed that he has stopped paying huge remuneration to male actors for his films.

Speaking in a panel discussion on Indian channel, filmmaker Karan Johar, who has given several hit films to Bollywood, said that he will also urge other filmmakers to reduce the remuneration of male actors. There are total 6 heroes in Bollywood and they are casted. Time has come to give new actors a chance, he added.

The filmmaker further said that big actors refused to work in his new low-budget film ‘Kal’. Famous actors were asking for the film’s remuneration as much as the entire film’s budget. I then cast the new actors. The budget of the film Kal was 40 crore Indian rupees and the famous actors were asking for their compensation of 40 crores too. I asked him, will you give me a guarantee that the film will make a total of 120 crores, Johar said.

New actors also demand huge remuneration while they are not willing to experiment or take risks by doing film roles.

On the other hand, filmmaker Zoya Akhtar said that male actors or heroes take 70 per cent of the film’s budget as their remuneration. This situation must change. Karan Johar and other filmmakers should reduce the remuneration of the actors and give it to the technical staff, she said.
