Iran’s Qalibaf calls for new regional Islamic order after US-Israel conflict

24 June, 2026 22:40

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf has called for the creation of a new regional Islamic order, urging West Asian and Muslim nations to rely on their own resources, capabilities, and people following recent conflicts involving the United States and Israel.

Speaking at the 20th session of the Parliamentary Union of the Islamic States (PUIC) in Baku, Qalibaf held meetings with Turkish and Azerbaijani parliamentary leaders, emphasizing the importance of unity among Islamic countries.

He stated that “the root of all misfortunes is the Zionist regime” and argued that recent military confrontations demonstrated the collapse of external power structures in the region.

Referring to the recent 12-day conflict and earlier escalation, he described the attacks on Iran as severe and unprecedented in modern history. He also claimed that Iran responded strongly and that its population showed resilience during the crisis.

Qalibaf stressed that unity among Islamic nations is “essential and inevitable,” calling for stronger political and strategic cooperation across the Muslim world.

During separate discussions, Turkish Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş expressed solidarity with Iran, stating that the conflict had no legal justification under international law and reaffirmed Turkey’s support for regional stability.

He also highlighted concerns about ongoing conflicts in Gaza and Lebanon, urging the international community not to ignore the humanitarian situation.

In meetings with Azerbaijani officials, Qalibaf emphasized that regional countries must learn from recent conflicts and prevent their territories from being used against neighboring states.

Azerbaijan’s parliamentary leadership reaffirmed its commitment to good neighborly relations with Iran, stating that both countries support each other in both peaceful and difficult times.

The discussions come amid ongoing diplomatic developments following a memorandum of understanding aimed at reducing tensions, although reports of continued strikes in parts of the region have raised concerns over long-term stability.
