Trump Confirms Iran Gave Assurances of No Strait of Hormuz Tolls; Warns Negotiations Will Collapse If Reports Prove False

24 June, 2026 18:09

US President Donald Trump has made a series of significant statements regarding the ongoing diplomatic engagement with Iran, addressing concerns over the Strait of Hormuz, the status of Iranian funds, and a proposed food purchase arrangement that would see the United States procure agricultural commodities for Iran.

Iran Denies Collecting Tolls on Strait of Hormuz

Trump stated that Iran is not currently levying any toll or fee on vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz, dismissing earlier reports to the contrary. He revealed that Tehran has provided Washington with direct assurances on this matter.

“Iran has given assurances to America that no tolls are being collected in the Strait of Hormuz.”

However, Trump issued a firm warning, stating that if these assurances are found to be false, the consequences would be severe for the ongoing diplomatic process.

“If the contrary reports are proven true, negotiations with Iran will come to an end.”

No New Money Released to Iran

Addressing concerns over financial concessions, Trump was unequivocal in clarifying that the United States has not provided any new funds to Iran, nor have any Iranian assets been directly released to Tehran.

“America has not given any new money to Iran, nor have Iranian funds been directly released.”

US to Purchase Food for Iran Using Iranian Funds

In a notable development, Trump disclosed that the United States will utilise existing Iranian funds to purchase essential food commodities — including corn, wheat, soybeans, and other food items — on Iran’s behalf. Crucially, he specified that all such food will be sourced exclusively from the United States.

“America will buy corn, wheat, soybeans and other food items for Iran using Iranian funds.”
“Food for Iran will only be purchased from America.”

Trump Acknowledges Iran’s Severe Food Shortage

Trump acknowledged that Iran is facing a serious and urgent food crisis, framing the food purchase arrangement as a humanitarian measure within the broader context of US-Iran diplomatic negotiations.

“Iran is in dire need of food.”

The statements mark a significant moment in the evolving US-Iran diplomatic relationship, with the food arrangement potentially serving as a confidence-building measure ahead of any broader nuclear or sanctions deal.
