Peace, But Not At Any Cost: US Tough Stance on Iran

On Thursday, in Bahrain, during meeting with Gulf foreign ministers, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that Washington wants a deal with Iran but “not at any price.”

In his statement, Rubio expressed hope for a successful agreement, saying, “That’s what we are prepared for, particularly if Iran makes the decision that instead of being a revolutionary movement that seeks to export its ideology into other countries, they’re now interested in being a nation state that focuses on the well-being of their own people.”

His statement addresses recent tensions, Rubio said the United States would not accept the Strait of Hormuz belonging to any single nation, He dismissed Iran’s descriptions of shipping charges as “just semantics.”

Eventually, he said that any peace deal must be real and lasting, Washington wanted the agreement to work but would ensure that any decisions and interests of both the US and its allies in the Gulf region.

This is what he said, “we are open for peace, but a peace that is enduring, that is real, and that in no way undermines our security, our prosperity, or the security or prosperity of our friends and allies in the Gulf region.”
