Trump Criticizes NATO Spending, Highlights U.S. Defense Burden

U.S. President Donald Trump has said that the United States spends more on NATO than any other member country, while receiving little direct benefit in return. He argued that the U.S. continues to protect allied nations without adequate compensation or burden-sharing from other members.
Trump stated that the United States’ defense budget stands at approximately $999 billion, significantly higher than that of other NATO members. He compared this with the United Kingdom’s defense spending of around $90.5 billion, France at $66.5 billion, Italy at $48.8 billion, and Poland at $44.3 billion.
He further noted that several other countries, including Germany and additional NATO allies, spend even less on defense, describing the disparity as “ridiculous.” According to Trump, such imbalances place an unfair burden on the United States while other members benefit from American security guarantees.
